Health Care

The team dedicated for health in the Market 3 center is composed by one nurse (foreign long-term volunteer) and 3 community workers who are living in the slum areas.

In the first quarter 2023, the nurse provided check-ups for 152 children most in need-those with major health issues, especially for those suffering from 3rd, 2nd and 1st degree malnutrition. Seventy-two beneficiaries most in need had a medical checkup and received medicines, some of them also received prescriptions for an x-ray or blood test. We also noticed that 49 children had intestinal worms.

From March through July regular follow-ups were made of the beneficiaries at the barangay health center and/or at the nearby hospitals. Our team assists the families for x-ray, blood test, ultrasound when needed, provides medicines, and helps the families for the health treatment follow-up of their children.

Since January 2023, the health team has taken care of a daddy of one of our street child beneficiaries. In January, he almost died because he has diabetes, cirrhosis of the liver and heart problems. Since then, the team has been taking him to hospital regularly. Thanks to appropriate treatment, he's doing better.

Nutrition

Since January 2023, good nutrition has been provided face to face in the center. The children come to the center for lunch. The community workers teach them to wash their hands before eating. The pre-pandemic rhythm has resumed.

Education

Since January, 38 children below 6 years old have come Monday to Friday for pre-school in little groups. 39 children above 6 years old came for tutorials also. This year back to school will be the second week of September in this center. Last June a day was set aside to celebrate the students and to thank parents for allowing their children to come to the pre-school. During the school vacations in August, all 60 of our community will prepare the centers and they will receive training sessions on education, health and nutrition. Trainings are done at our office in Santillan street, Navotas.
